I have an 86 super cab 4x4 ranger with a manual transmission. the truck was orinally a 4 cylinder but I swaped in a 2.9L from a BII the problem I am having is I cant seem to keep a tranny in it I started with a mitsubishi. I lost 5th gear in it so I replaced it with another mitsubishi that one took about six months and 5th was gone. The truck was making several trips from colorado to Iowa after that one I put a toyo koygo 5spd in it and now it is rattling at an idel and in 5th when you let out of the gas it has whining and tapping sound I am beging to wonder if the it not just trans problem any insight would be great.

do you check the fluid in the tranny? does it leak? i had to replace on in an 86 b2 several times a few years back and finally swapped in an m5od and never seen the truck again. and i had put in a mitsu and tk in it before
