Tranny difference?

I have a 94 3.0 4x4 with a 5 spd. The tranny shop tells me that a 4.0 has a different trans and they won't swap. I have looked in the tech lib and it seems that the only difference would be the ratio of the upper gears.

Is this correct?

My truck is totaled, but I just rebuilt the trans last year so I am looking for a truck that needs a trans that I can put it in.

The 3.0 and 4.0 have the same trans, but the Bellhousing bolt pattern is different, so they will not swap between eachother.

Alright. I guess that may make me feel better. Am I reading the interchange page wrong in the tech lib then?

Find a 3.0 truck with a bad trans and your problem will be solved. Better yet even if you run into a 4.0 truck with a bad trans or even a 2.3 4cyl you may be able to trade yours off with someone for the one that you need.
