OKAY somethings not right with my rotor

okay well i have been hearing a lot of squeeking in my driver side front wheel then my abs light came on so i decided to check it out well i take off the wheel everything looks fine then i ttake the calipor off the pads are fine so i go to take off my Rotor and its not even on its all over the place so i take of the locknuts and stuff and my abs sensor is grinded off i think im missing something behind my rotor is there like a bearing or something that goes there?
 
the rotors are the hubs, and if you don't have a bearing on both sides you've got a problem, lol. I doubt you would be able to drive it without both bearings though.... probably just the bearing/races got wore out and let everything move around way too much. take off the other side and make sure you're not missing anything on the funky side. Or better yet get a book and checkout the breakdown of the brakes.

Looks like your wheel bearings either failed or the spindle nuts back off to allow enough play for the rotor to take out the speed sensor. I've had this happen to me before. You'll need to replace the speed sensor, rotor, wheel bearings, wheel seal, etc... Good luck getting that sensor to come out...it will be a pita.
 
is that the speed sensor or the abs sensor that is grinded down becuase my abs light is on for some reason and it only started when this happened and i was playing with the spindle today and i looked behind it and i guess i need to replace the spindle bearing too
 
Yes....abs speed sensor. I forgot to mention the spindle bearings in the last post. You should replace everything while your in there, and inspect u-joints, balljoints, etc... If your gonna do it, do it right.

ha wow i feel dumb. HA. Yeah i am going to check it all, so I Do it all right so nothing like this happens again. Another question is is it usually a pita to get the spindle and everything off? I took all the spindle bolts off and its still not coming off
 
Try tapping it with a rubber mallet in different directions to break it free.

Clean everything up really well and use antiseize on everything when you put it back together, so when you take it apart to repack your wheel bearings everything will come apart very easily.

You are gonna take it apart every once in awhile to service the bearings arent you.

It sounds like it's a screwed up. That looks nasty. Get those axles out of there and replace the joints too.

The spindles will take an ass whooping to get them off. I use an 8# sledge with the handle sawn down to fist length as a mechanics hammer. Insulate the impact with a piece of oak board. Pine will absorb too much of the blow. A spindle puller works good--its a slide hammer that screws onto the spindle and works in one or two hits because all of the impact goes laterally.

Next, ask questions all the way through. It's possible to wreak the axles while replacing the joints if you don't use the proper finesse. Make sure you set the wheel bearings up properly. That inner nut needs to be repeatedly torqued to 35ft# while spinning the rotor in order to work all the excess grease out from between the cone and rollers. Then, when the torque wrench clicks without tightening the nut anymore, back off the nut exactly 1/4 turn. You will feel the bearing go loose suddenly right at 1/4 turn. Then it gets 16 inch pounds--which is 2 beers balanced on the end of an 8" ratchet. Then install the inner washer and then the locknut. The locknut gets 150ft#. Then drink the 2 beers.

Hopefully everything will be all apart tomorrow so i can see what i need to get new and what not

I tried hitting the spindle with a rubber mallet nothing happened.. so i think ill make a few calls and see if i can get a hold of that spindle pulley. If not i guess the sledge will have to due.
 
Do what Will said regarding the piece of wood on the spindle. I had to beat the ever-lovin' s#!t out of mine to get it off. And copious amounts of never-sieze after wards to make sure this isn't an issue in the future. Because once you think you'll "never have to do that job again," you're going to have to do that job again.

I've been expecting my truck to say "no mas" for years now, and it just won't die. So I'm redoing jobs (brakes, exhaust, etc) that I never thought would need to be done again because I thought other more serious problems were going to kill the truck before the parts wore out.
 
yeah i had problems with the brakes before and i never thought i wold have to do them again...but here we are about a year later doing them cuz i didnt maintain them like i should of
