Why two?

I have a '08 Ranger with the 2.3. I noticed that it has an electric fan and mechanical fan. Any ideas why it has both of them?

The electric fan is most likely for your a/c. It probably kicks on when you turn your a/c on.

No, the other one comes on when it feels like. I caught mine on this morning while running the heater, even. I rarely ever hear the clutch fan kick on, though.

most of the newer rangers a/c compressor comes on with heat and a/c especially with the defroster on

Yeah, or bi-level, rendering them useless. I only use the 2 spots that dont trigger the ac, floor and vent.
