I picked up this 90 ranger for $300. It's a little 2.3 with the
auto. The engine runs great, but the transmission is junk.

The plan is to toss in a used tranny and drive it while we collect parts for our 5.0 swap.

Here's our plan for the drivetrain:
Stock explorer long block (3 bar heads), upgrade valve spings, still deciding on cam
4.2 f150 5 speed
Explorer 8.8" rear end with 3:55's and l/s

Exterior:
New/used bed
New fenders
Fresh paint (color to be determined)
Explorer limited grill and front bumper
Roll pan

Interior:
New carpet
94+ mustang gt seats
Explorer console
Recover headliner

It'll be lowered a few inches, and wheel probably have some kind of mustang wheels.

If you notice, we will be using a lot of o.e.m parts to keep cost down, and make it more like something ford should of done.

Putting the boy to work.

Had an old bug guard and some broken foglights.

So we took that garbage off.

Also pulled off the chrome rocker panel covers and the bed rails.

The interior was dirty, but not completely ragged out. The passenger door panel was in the bed.

So I pulled the seats and carpet and hit them with the garden hose. Didn't spend a lot of time on them because I plan on new carpet and bucket seats. I let them dry out in the back yard for 24hrs then put it all back in along with installing the passenger side door panel.

I'll post pics of the clean(er) interior this evening.

Also had a fee hours to kill, so I pulled the transmission out. It was really had for me not to pull the motor as well and start on the v8 swap.... but I want to have everything ready before I do that... plus I could use the little truck out at the property for now.

Looks like a good project. I have done a swap or 2 in my time on the forums.

The carpet didn't come out as clean as I liked, so I'm going to replace it when I replace the seats. I plan to coat the floor pans and add some sound deadener at that time as well.

Main thing is to get a good transmission in the truck so I can use it to make my junk yard runs.... should be a fun little project.
