This is on a '96 4 cyl.

When you turn the A/c on the compressor kicks on for a few seconds, almost stalls the engine, compressor cycles off engine picks back up and as soon as it picks up the compressor kicks on, almost stalls it again and it just keeps going like that. The air blows kinda cold but nothing great.

Any ideas? Im thinking about buying the truck so i just wanna get an idea of what the issue is.

did you overcharge the system? Maybe compressor starting to sieze and you have low refrigerant as a result of a leak because of physical damage?

sounds like r134 leak. the compressor is probly about to sieze do to low coolant, most likely not over charged.. expecially since its only semi cool.

I'm not the expert here on this, but I'm pretty sure that's exactly what happens when you are low on refrigerant. The compressor kicks on, uses up the R-134, then shuts down right away due to low pressure (switch). Try adding more R-134. If that solves the problem, you probably have a leaking system.
