I am thinking about getting an english long bow. Not a compound bow. But I do not know where to start. What is the pull pound I should start off with. And who make a good bow. I am more for a wooden bow than fiberglass. Any help would be great.

A longbow or a recurve bow? A longbow is a straight stick more or less, recurve was the top dog in most respects before compound/pulley bows came along. Fred Bear brand is my recommendation. Check Ebay and hit the pawn shops and estate sales. Whatever you can pull with a compound, minus about 5 lbs. is good starting point for a recurve until you decide whether you really want one. I wouldn't hunt with any less than 40-lb. pull but that's just me.

A long bow is a bite that the steering doesn't touch the limbs except where it hooks to.

A recurve gives the same or better performance but in a smaller package.

I sit a compound bow but use for both recreational and hunting.

A bow teaches you discipline and respect but also helps build a good upper body.

Say what??

You don't want a longbow for fun if you've never done archery before. With a recurve you'll probably be accurate enough to have fun. Can't beat a Bear.
