Is this flywheel as rare as the bellhousing? Reason asking, I have a couple teeth on mine that are really chewed up, and starter engagement always seems to land on that area of course. Interesting thing is my local Orielly's store lists the flywheel for it and a ring gear replacement. But all parts stores get this motor mixed up with the 2.3 gasser when it comes to finding stuff. Just want to get all my ducks in a row before I tear it down and find I'm sol. Any info appreciated!

Well I' m not sure since I have not bought one for mine but every website I found shows that it uses the same flywheel as the gas 2.3, which would make it a common part.. Good luck maybe someone will have a definite answer for you.

You can always buy just the ring gear whitch is sold by diameter and # of teeth, you will need a good heat source to heat it up to drive it on, or have a machine shop do it

Well, just come to find out that the flywheel IS about as rare as the bellhousing.
Once again more 2.3 gasser parts incorrectly listed as fitting the diesel..I had that sinking feeling the entire time pulling the trans, which btw is a sombitch! This bellhousing is just a bit bigger than the tunnel trying to pull it straight back because of the firewall/floor pinch weld.. :annoyed: It will be getting a good "opening up" before I put the trans back in lol
Anyway, flywheel is in great shape but still have a ring gear issue, and only place I could locate one was India and I couldn't come up with any connections to getting one built. Kind of an odd tooth count for the diameter it is according to a few I did talk to. Sooooooooo, I just heated up the gear, flipped it over and the engagement teeth are now brand spanking new :icon_thumby: Three small tack welds for added piece of mind and its going back in.
