I use 4.10 with 31"x8.50x15" in my b-II. It was 3.45. That works good for me for combo street and offroad.

I currently have 3.55's with a m5od and want to go with 31x10's. What's the ideal all around gear ratio for that size of tires with a 5spd?
a 2.9 with 4.10's is about ideal, but I'd seriously consider slightly larger tires.

when I was still running a 2.9 I was already running 235/75-15's
when I switched to 4.10's.

Now that I have a 4.0 the 4.10's are just a bit "much" for long distance
highway cruising.

the 4.0 is an absolute pig when cruising above 2500rpm.

With my gears I get <2000rpm at 55mph in 5th, but I have a mazda trans
and thus a bit more overdrive than your A4LD

AD
Here is what AD says about it. and what i can say I have 30x9.5 with 4:10 and i say it way overkill, i keep feeling like i could have 1 more gear i need to shift into when in OD

I think 3.73 is perfect with 235/75R15. So I could see either way (3.73 or 4.10) with 31s. Best bet would be to look at the chart: http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/gearandtirechart.html

Don't forget that were talking about RPM in overdrive. So you have to multiply that number time like 0.78. Depends on your transmissions OD ratio.
