I'm assuming when you say it won't shift into reverse you mean when you put it in reverse it doesn't move. That said, the rear band is not applying and this usually a precursor to complete failure, at least in my 40yrs experience working on my own automatics. You might get a pro to chime in that does trans rebuilding for a living and tell me I'm full of @#$%%
