When I bought my 89 Ranger back in 2001, it had no cargo light.

Instead it had this rubber "Boot" thing covering the spot where it should be.
Missing Cargo Light, what is this in it's place?

Knowing the previous owner had the truck painted at some point in the past I just assumed the paint shop had removed it when they painted it and never put it back on.

So I went and bought a cargo light to put on it, but when I held it up to this boot thing, it was waayyyyyy bigger than the cargo light. So not wanting to have a two inch bright red ring around my cargo light (The truck was originally red) and not knowing what I would find if I cut the boot, Left it alone and shelved the cargo light.

1. So, what is this "Boot" thing?

2. Is there any reason I cant just cut a hole in it for the wires and bolt the cargo light over it?

3. Is there a way to make sure the wires for the cargo light are there without cutting a hole in this thing?

Thanks for your help :icon_thumby:

The best way to check is to drop the head linger and see if the wiring is there.

I don't know what the ceiling panels are like on the Rangers with headliners (the two I've had have just been metal) but there's no way to see the wires unless you take the dome light out to look, it's right there
