Hello all! I am looking to buy a near immaculate 2.8 V6 1983 Ford Ranger. It has an automatic transmission that is acting up according to the owner. My question is, would it be worth fixing up if I could get the truck for $1000? The truck does not shift into 3rd or have reverse at the moment. Are these transmissions for this model year hard to come by? What is your view? :headbang:

Truck is 2WD, 95K miles, basically rust free...

If the truck is really cherry and it great shape I would buy it...but only if I had another good tranny to go in it. To rebuild that tranny will be over $400+ and it could be as much as $1,000. I can't see it, but I can tear one apart to look at it. I would look arund for a better truck that had a V6 in it and needed nothing. I see them here in Florida a lot for a nice price for a low milage running Ranger. Shop around first before you decide on just one truck. This truck might nickel and dime you to death since you realy can't drive it and see what else is wrong with it. Just take your time about buying something, Bro.
