need to make an extension cord for a arc welder. Im not sure which wire size to run. I want to make a 30-50ft cord.

Thanks

Go buy an UGLYS book. That is a reference for electricians and electronics. There are too many variables with the question you ask for anyone to safely answer it here.

What is the rated max current draw of the welder?

20A = 12GA
30A = 10GA
40A = 8 GA

#8 should be fine for that.

I would say bigger is better.

Better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it!

true. Ill probably get it with next weeks check. need to buy my por15 and shift extender this week

Might be cheaper to just buy a pre made one...

So you are plugging into a dryer outlet or a welder outlet?

Harbor Freight should sell the welder cords.

Im plugging it into the stove plug. I already swapped the plug on the welder just need the extension cord to run it outside.

I got a 25' with 50amp welder plug ends that light up for $75 at Rural King.
