Idle Problem

I have a 1987 Ranger XLT with a 2.9. All of a sudden it started running rough at idle. I have installed new ford plugs, added injector cleaner to the fuel tank, replaced the IAC and TPS, cleaned the throttle body and adjusted the idle stop per instructions found on the forum. It is a lot better but still idles rough until it heats up to operating temperature.

It runs smoothe at higher rpms. I have a code reader which only indicates a code 23 fault which pertains to the TPS which I have just replaced. Any ideas?

hmm..

So I guess you have the TPS set to the correct voltage since you said you set the idle according to what we've said on here? The EEC controls it but it controls it by that TPS reading.

How old is the O2 Sensor?
 
02 sensor age

I don't really know. I had a re-man engine put in it about 12K ago. I haven't been able to identify all of the sensors. I have some diagrams but can't read the small print well enough to identify everything. Where is the 02 sensor located?

The engine runs smoothe after it warms up to operating temp.

I have another question. Can anyone give me the identification of the wires attached to the plug in for the code reader on my 1987 Ranger by color code? I found someone had evidently removed the wires from the plug (probably to use an ohm meter) and then just randomly stuck them back in the plug. I haven't been able to find a wiring diagram for the plug. the black wire is separate and a ground. However there are three other wires.

this would help me use my code reader to solve problems.
