I have a 1996 2.3 with 191,000.. I would like to change the motor at a 2.5 out of a 1998 ranger. Can this be done and what will i have to change on the engines?
 
the swap should go smoothly, not much should be different, the 2.3 should have 8 spark plugs and the 2.5 should have 4 if my experience is cprrect. should be a matter of pulling the one and dropping the other in there and running what wires need to be run, give it some trial and error. and it may work with no mods. i'm fuzzy on the motor mounts, they may be the same, but i think they're about half an inch off.
just give it a shot and see what happens haha
