I burned a few hundred rounds of ammo today getting it sighted in and killing some helpless birds.
It's a 10/22 Ruger with a tactical solutions fluted bull barrell with threaded end for counter balance. Center Point red and green dot 50mm scope and a custom enameled stock.
My cousin had it...... I'd been shooting snapping turtles with my Savage 110 .270 and 100 dollars worth of ammo later......... i decided to get something a tad more cost effective.
as i sat out there on my tailgate today watching waiting for an unlucky turtle specimen to rear his evil head........... absolutely nothing happened.
Not one single turtle...... so i walked around the pond and got to looking, and what do I see?
A mangled turtle graveyard below the surface........ i'm pretty sure I killed every single one of them. The fish will be eating well, the ones that don't die of lead poisoning first.
But the new gun is still pretty sweet and highly effective on birds and post it notes taped to my walnut backstop log "which wouldn't stop .270 rounds when i was sighting it in from 250 yards to 50 yards in the name of turtle carnage" similar to total carnage.... but with turtles.

I need to get a handgun but MA sucks!!! I should just get a rifle and a scope... Assault rifle.

If you get a small gun I highly recommend the 10/22 it's so customizable it's not even funny.... I'm going to be getting some banana clips for it soon.
I usually carry my little Ruger 22 Mark pistol "made in the 200th year of american freedome" and it shoots like a dream.
I love my savage 110 with accutrigger for a deer rifle........ it's an awesome gun.
I have many other "favorites but the democrats are going to make sure no one can defend themselves from the zombie apocalypse"
I just never got into the whole assault rifle thing.... that and I think .223 and .243 rounds are only good for torturing animals if your shot is the slightest bit off its mark.

Dude, I need to be there with you when you shoot. We both would be having a blast shooting our .22's.
Yes, those Ruger 10/22 are unbelieve over customizable. But, I'm quite happy with my Marlin 60 .22, Henery lever action .22, and S&W 22A pistol. My next purchases in firearms will be the Ruger SR-556 6.8SPC, S&W Governor, S&W MP .40 semi-auto, and S&W MP 357 mag revolver. The Ruger SR-556 being on the top of the list. Just waiting for the Exchange to offer the 10% off promo on Ruger firearms. Then I get 10% and don't have to pay taxes (military).

I shoot a .22 because it's fun and cheap..... I love my .22 mag but even that little sucker gets expensive after a long day.
I need to dig up my old "plinker" targets.... they flip and reset. You just put a little dot in the middle.
The Marlin 60 is the most popular .22 rifle in the world.... I was going to get one for 100 dollars before i came across this one..... it's almost over customized for my taste but at least it doesn't look like a toy yet.
the only thing I dont like about the 60 is that feeder tubes are a major PIA to reload when your doing a lot of shooting.
I'd love to have some company to shoot.... may even get out the truck reciever mount clay pigeon thrower and my Sweet 16. Best shotgun ever made.

I have no problems with clay pigeons. I got a Remington 870 SuperMag shotgun that can spread lead plenty a far. :D. And with a 2x-7x scope on it, just aim and blast away.

For cheap shooting you can not beat a .22. Very decent for a varmit killer too. I have a 702 that I love, for what its intent in my arsonal is nothing will do it any better... pinking and/or killing any small pesky animal that irritates me but is too big for a pellet gun.
I have much bigger and they have their purpose too.
Speaking of new guns, I had a new Marlin 336 30-30 follow me home today. :D

Two of my .22's are in this picture, I'm sure you can guess which ones they are. The real little one is actually a black powder cap and ball revolver. The MP5-PK is getting transferred to a friend in a couple days, though. I have too many guns, and he has been nagging me about it for almost a year. I'm taking his tricked out Mauser and making him put a clutch in my truck for me in exchange, though.

nice! I'll stick with my bolt action .22 Mag though, I am deadly with it, and I don't use a scope for long range shots either

Hey, I can respect someone being accurate with iron sights. Gimme an M4 like I was issued when I was in the service and I can hit a 4" group at 300 yards on target with just the backup peep-sight.

They can have far better senses than a human, and unless you are hunting the afore mentioned reptiles or amphibians they can prove very challenging. No they don't shoot back, they just leave.
Dunno, it still might be easy for a special ops guy. It is still challanging to the average shmo.

You don't hunt turtles.... you just shoot them. It's not like it takes a gilly suit and scent blocker to back my truck up to the pond levy turn my i-pod on low and wait.
Also, I don't get off on it, I just love fishing and when turtles are damaging my bass and catfish population......... the turtles have got to go.
I like iron sights.... a scope makes moving shots a real pain and they are useless on a brush gun, but a scope has it's purpose undeniably.

Haaaa, I gues you are right. If you hunted them you would be walking so slow all day....lol!!! Nah...I am not a hunter of animals. My dad loves to hunt, but he only kills what he eats. I just don't like hunters who shoot the deer and hogs and them leave them to rot. A good hunter would not do that. Plus the hunter help pay for wildlife habitats and upkeep and the land...so I can't hate them!!!

When I was about 6 y/o I worked and earned enough money to buy myself a Daisy B-B gun. While out being the mighty hunter, I came across a mud turtle about 1 1/2 feet across. I shot him and he didn't seem to notice. I stuck the gun in his face and he opened his mouth. I shoved the gun in his mouth and he clamped down on it. I shot and reloaded and shot a bunch of times. Again, he didn't seem to notice? After a long wait, he let go of the gun barrel and opened his mouth to hiss at me. There was a little pile of B-B's on his tongue. At that point I gave up hunting turtles and haven't shot one since.
I did hunt sparrows for a while with the Daisy, but found a tennis racket to be much more effective.:icon_thumby:

I just ordered some tracer rounds and some hyper velocity rounds...... new steel lipped banana clips and some other goodies from Cheaper Than Dirt.
they also had some extremely cheap 12 gauge trap rounds that i bought a case of.... me and my brother went clay shooting yesterday and we burned our 200 rounds we had (except for a few home defense rounds)
all in all 160 dollars with shipping, i would have ordered some .270 rounds but they were pretty steep. I'll stick to local gun shop for those.
Be here in 3 days, I'm phsyched!!!!

My main plinking gun right now is a Bushmaster CAR-15(I need to buy the .22 upper for it), I have a AK that is .223 that is more accurate, but I really enjoy capping off 30rds at a pop(3, 30 rd clips). for hunting I use a 300WSM. or my old InterArms 270.

My two favorite things to hunt are crowes and coyotes. They are both very challenging creatures to stalk and thats whats fun about hunting to me. Occasionally I will dove hunt but only with a single shot full choke shotgun just to make it more of a challenge. Turkey hunting is ok. Not much into squirrels unless they are a nuisance but then I only use a pellet gun. Not a deer hunter, to damn easy to hit something so big standing there like a potted plant. I do enjoy deer meat just not the hunt. I do shoot a lot of starlings around here with my pellet gun cause they build nests in the damn gutters and stop them up. My two favorite choices of weapons are my Marlin 17HMR and my Winchester model 70 .223 WSSM. Kinda a odd gun but I love it. Wanted a 22-250 but everybody and their brother down here has one so I went with the .223 WSSM ( Winchester super short mag). Somewhat more powerful than the 22-250. The only drawback to it is that the muzzle velosity is so fast that its considered a barrel killer and the rpms of the round are so high that occasionally you will have a round disintegrate in flight but thats only happen to me a couple times. I suppose hunting bear or say moose might be pretty thrilling as they would try to kill you if you didnt kill them first but Ill stick with the crowes and coyotes. Heard prarie dogs were pretty fun but that would seem a little cruel to me.

You ever tried deer hunting with a bow? I would think it would be along the same lines as coyote hunting, probably a little tougher. I have never coyote hunted aside from the occasional potshot during deer season though.
I have heard prarie dogs are pretty fun too, but I am not driving that far just to plug a couple rodents. I wouldn't mind trying antelope sometime though and while I am there...

I have and I will say thats pretty darn hard. I respect people who do it. Not much of a bow man myself even though I live in the deep south. Im a little guy so not the strongest person. I can use a bow but not very accurate with it. But here in Alabama its now legal to hunt deer with a crossbow. It used to be that only handicap people could use one but the law changed a couple years back. My uncle had a crossbow that I like very much. Silent and deadly. As far as the coyotes. Here where I live there has been a lot of coal strip mining over the years. There is plenty of land that has been reclaimed. They have to put the terrain back like it was before mining so there is plenty of open land here with nothing but mostly high grass. (they do not plant trees back). We just find a high spot and usually the coyotes are 200 to 500 yards away. You can see them jumping up and down in the grass trying to get there pray to move. The farther the target, the more fun it is.
